“It’s the network”
because it sure as hell ain’t the phones. How many rehashes of the exact same phone can you sell? Somewhere in a press release I read that they have “18 music phones” available. How many editions of the LG chocolate are included in that number? Just scrolling through their list I count 8 different colors of the chocolate – same old shit, different color. 3 KRZR K1m models too, merely different coloring.
EDIT: Went with verizon again for a few reasons, but the LG Chocolate isn’t as terrible as I thought it was – turns out I actually kind of like it.

bubble gum and taffy…
It annoys me to no end that the only candybar-style phone that Verizon has is the Motorola SLVR. After 4 years of flip phones breaking at the hinges, I’m done. And yet, Verizon keeps stocking them (conspiracy theory: more broken hinges means more phones for people to buy!).
EDIT: Guess I can’t really complain – Cingular/AT&T only has 3 candybar phones too, aside from the smartphones.

Quicken Support – How do I update Quicken 2007 for Macintosh to the latest release?
The update is distributed as an .hqx file, which subsequently expands to a .dmg.sit file, which THEN turns into a .dmg file that can finally be mounted by OS X.

The other day, where “other day” qualifies as over 2 months ago, I made a deposit at a Bank of America ATM that was probably the neatest ATM I’ve ever used. I wanted to deposit two checks, but when I walked up to the ATM there were no envelopes to use. Instead, the Durham BofA that I was at had an envelope-free ATM that scans your checks and then asks you confirm the amounts, because it automatically reads out the check amount too. When you’re all done, it prints out a receipt for you with a mini-image of the checks you just scanned in. Yes, the ATM was made by Diebold, but it worked fine. The end result was pretty neat and maybe somewhat quicker once you get past the initial confusion.
So far, the Durham branch was the only one I’ve seen it at. The Ithaca and California ATMs I’ve visited have all been of the old-school variety so far. A Santa Clara Wells Fargo near me has it though, I think.
